A Message from the President and CEO
Welcome to Whittier Street Health Center. We at Whittier have a long tradition of caring for Boston’s neighborhoods. Our medical team and staff are ranked one of the finest in delivering comprehensive health care tailored to you and your family.
Whittier has been a part of the community for more than 80 years and we are dedicated to providing you with services that take care of the whole “you”. Think of Whittier as a one-stop shop where you can come for your primary care, and where you can also come for wellness/fitness, eye care, dental care, and behavioral health services. We also have many health and wellness programs that can help you manage and improve your health. All of our services are sensitive to your cultural, social and economic needs.
Whittier is a Joint Commission-accredited health facility, which means that we are recognized for achieving national standards for quality and safety in health care delivery. We are also recognized as a Level 3 (highest rank) Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, as well as PRIME Certified (for our commitment to integrate patients with behavioral health needs to primary care) and PCCC certified (recognized for our efforts to link patient to primary care). With the move to our new, state of the art, Silver LEED-certified green building in 2012, we now have the capacity that complements our capability to become the center of health equity in Boston.
The social determinants of health – such as poverty, crime and education – often act as barriers to forming or maintaining healthy habits. To address these inequities, Whittier has designed and implemented the Boston Health Equity Program (BHEP), a primary care delivery model that combines care coordination, community outreach and wellness support.
Never has this work mattered more; health disparities from diabetes to cancer to obesity result in a chilling life span gap of 33% between our low-income residents and their affluent neighbors just two miles away. The BHEP operationalizes our vision to serve as the premier leader in urban healthcare to diverse populations as articulated in our five-year strategic plan that will define the future of community health.
I invite you to browse through our website and review Whittier’s many services. Then, come in and visit our full service medical facility located in the heart of the city, convenient by both car and public transportation. Any one of our staff will be happy to sit with you to discuss our services. After viewing our comfortable, modern facility, and speaking with our competent, caring staff, I am confident that you will join our family of patients who rely on Whittier for care.
