| Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC is funded by Congress and is adminsitered nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculutre.

WIC provides nutritious foods and nutrition and breastfeeding education to low and moderate income women, infants and children who are at nutritional risk. WIC is a unique program because it benefits those who are at critical periods of rapid growth by providing nutrition counseling and supplemental foods.

There are four criteria for WIC eligibility:

- Live in Massachusetts
- Be a pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding woman, an infant or a child under 5 years of age
- Be low or moderate income
- Be at nutritional risk
