Whittier Street Health Center’s Arts Therapy Department runs multiple Decisions Arts groups across the year for adolescent and pre-adolescent girls who have been subjected to violence. Whittier Arts and Dance Therapists, both Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC’s),  run the groups. This 8 to 12 week offering focuses on adolescents or pre-adolescents and offers multimodal ways of processing and expressing feelings, with a strong emphasis on making healthy choices in multiple areas of functioning.

Whittier Street Health Center Decision Arts for adolescents includes the following:

  • Self Esteem: Individuality, Identity, Diversity
  • Self Esteem: Body Image
  • Healthy Relationships: Family, Peers
  • Healthy Relationships: Romantic, Teen Dating Violence
  • Healthy Choices: Coping with stress, anxiety, depression, and anger
  • Health Choices: Nutrition, Exercise
  • Healthy Choices: Drugs and Alcohol
  • Art Show

The groups for pre-adolescent girls are edited for age-appropriate topics and decision-making.

A note about Whittier and COVID-19

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in our area, we ask all clients and patients to call ahead before coming to any of our sites. Whittier will provide COVID-19 testing from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday to Friday. Following CDC guidance, we recommend testing if you have a fever AND one of the following three symptoms: cough OR shortness of breath OR sore throat. Please bring your picture identification and your insurance card (if you have insurance).
