COVID-19 TESTING SITE

  • April 23, 2020
WHITTIER STREET HEALTH CENTER LAUNCHED COVID-19 TESTING SITES AT ITS MAIN SITE ON 1290 TREMONT STREET, ROXBURY ON APRIL 13th, 2020:
Early data suggests that the Covid19 virus disproportionately affects people of color in Boston, and that they have a much higher risk of contracting and dying from the virus. The data also suggest that specific neighborhoods have higher incidence of Covid19. Research has shown that differences in access to high quality jobs and economic stability, quality education, health care services, and other social issues — the social determinants of health — Contribute to racial inequities in health   Please click on this link for a brief interview on WCVB TV- Channel 5
Our diverse and dedicated staff will provide culturally competent community outreach & education in order to broaden residents’ access to Covid-19 testing. In addition to the testing site at our main location on 1290 Tremont Street in Roxbury, we will also provide outreach and education via our Mobile Health Van in several hotspots in Boston, and contactless outreach at several public housing developments in Roxbury.
The at-risk populations to be served include: Seniors, people experiencing homelessness, undocumented immigrants, residents with limited English proficiency, first responders, essential front-line workers (grocery store employees, etc.), healthcare workers, persons with disabilities, l ow-income adults and communities of color . We are providing COVID-19 testing to all Whittier and Boston residents who meet the current Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines.
We are grateful to have many who have joined us in the fight against the deadly virus, which creates an additional burden for our already vulnerable population. The COVID-19 response donors include Mayor Marty Walsh and the Boston Resiliency Fund, Chief Marty Martinez of the City of Boston Health Department, Eversource Energy, Liberty Mutual Foundation, Eastern Bank Foundation, Attorney Linda Champion donated handmade face masks to all staff, Purdue Pharma, Cigna Foundation, Grimes King Foundation and many more ! With your support, Whittier Street Health Center is championing equitable access to high quality community based-primary care and social services.
Thank you for your support!
