Whittier Street Health Launches Prescription for Health Initiative
Wellness program includes activities to improve physical and mental health
BOSTON, MA, ISSUED MARCH 3, 2023…Whittier Street Health Center, a community health center with a mission to serve as a center of excellence that provides high quality and accessible health care and social services that achieve health equity, social justice, and the economic well-being of a diverse patient population, recently kicked off its Prescription for Health initiative with a well-attended event featuring a program overview, wellness tips, and a cooking demonstration.
Whittier patients enrolled in the program are assigned a Care Team to develop an individualized plan to meet their medical, dental, visual, behavioral health, and social needs. The program emphasizes prevention, stress reduction, and positive behaviors which promote a culture of wellness.
The initiative also includes referrals to services including nutrition assessment and counseling and food access programs.
“The Prescription for Health approach seeks to keep patients from developing chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity and help those with existing chronic illnesses develop self-management skills to avoid health crises,” said Frederica M. Williams, president and CEO of Whittier Street Health Center.
