Celebrating National Pharmacist Month

  • October 25, 2024

October marks National Pharmacist Month, a time to recognize the vital role pharmacists play in our healthcare system. Pharmacists provide crucial information about medications, helping patients understand prescriptions, potential side effects, and drug interactions. Their expertise significantly impacts patient adherence to medication regimens, leading to better health outcomes.

Our Pharmacists work tirelessly in the Whittier Street Health Pharmacy to serve our diverse patient population in a neighborhood where other retail pharmacies have recently closed. We offer a broad spectrum of services, which are made even more accessible thanks to our free home delivery of medications. Our pharmacists manage prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements, identifying interactions and duplicative therapies, especially when multiple physicians are involved in a patient’s care.

Participating in the 340B Drug Discount Program, Whittier provides outpatient drugs at reduced prices, enhancing access and improving community health. In partnership with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, we’ve designed Medication Therapy Management (MTM) programs tailored to high-risk patients, delivering culturally competent clinical pharmacy services.

As accessible healthcare providers, pharmacists also offer immunizations, health screenings, and chronic disease management, empowering patients to take charge of their health. During National Pharmacist Month, we reflect on the support pharmacists provide, especially in underserved areas.

Let’s celebrate National Pharmacist Month by appreciating the pharmacists in our lives. Their dedication and expertise are invaluable to our health and well-being!

A note about Whittier and COVID-19

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in our area, we ask all clients and patients to call ahead before coming to any of our sites. We are working to take care of most clients/patients via phone/video encounter so we can meet your ongoing healthcare needs. This is for your safety and so we can provide the highest quality of care to you while following CDC guidance for COVID-19. Please call 617-427-1000 for any questions or concerns.

Whittier will provide COVID-19 testing from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday to Friday. Following CDC guidance, we recommend testing if you have a fever AND one of the following three symptoms: cough OR shortness of breath OR sore throat. Please bring your picture identification and your insurance card (if you have insurance).
