MLK Day of Service
Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 16th, 2025 during our MLK Day of Service: A Commitment to Health Equity and Social Justice!
As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2025, we reflect on the profound legacy of a man, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968), whose work continues to shape the landscape of equality, justice, and opportunity in America. He worked tirelessly to ensure that everybody, regardless of race, religion, or national origin, could be free from violence and discrimination, a dream that he famously spoke about in his speech on August 28th, 1963, in Washington. Revered as America’s greatest advocate for human rights and peaceful protest, Dr. King was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, making him the youngest recipient in the history of the prize.
In honor of Dr. King’s legacy, we rededicate ourselves to addressing these disparities, working diligently to ensure that all individuals—regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or geographic location—have access to the care they need to thrive. We are committed to providing high quality healthcare and social services and fostering an environment of inclusivity, compassion, and understanding. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for health equity and access to quality healthcare for all, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, or background. In a speech at the Medical Committee for Human Rights in Chicago, King said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.”
At Whittier Street Health Center, we recognize the role we play in this larger effort. We are focused on improving access to care, cultural competency and inclusivity, promoting preventive care and education and advocating for equity and equality. We will be commemorating Dr. King’s legacy and life of service by distributing winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves, to adult and youth patients. Registration is required for the event.
