National Pharmacist Month
October marks National Pharmacist Month, a time to recognize the vital role pharmacists play in our healthcare system and everyday lives.
From providing crucial information about medications to helping patients understand prescriptions, potential side effects, and drug interactions, their expertise is on the frontline of care.
The patient-centered support provided by pharmacists at Whittier Street Health Center goes far beyond dispensing medications; they review prescriptions, monitor for harmful interactions, educate patients on proper use, foster adherence and confidence in treatment plans – all delivered in a culturally competent manner with the goal of improving outcomes for our diverse patient population. They are also available to help manage patients’ over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and other supplements, in addition to administering immunizations.
Whittier works in partnership with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy design pharmacy and Medication Therapy Management programs (MTM) tailored to high-risk patients. In addition to MTM services, our pharmacists participate in clinical teams including diabetes, pediatric asthma, hypertension, and Hepatitis C.
Whittier participates in the 340B Drug Discount Program; as such, we offer outpatients medications at reduced prices, further enhancing access to care.
During National Pharmacist Month we celebrate these indispensable healthcare professionals whose patient-centered care, public health advocacy, and collaborative practices extend far beyond the prescription counter.
The Whittier Street Health Center pharmacy is located within the Frederica M. Williams Building at 1290 Tremont Street, Roxbury. In an unwavering effort to better serve our patients, we offer medication delivery, if needed.
