Whether it is the dominance of the Celtics in the 60’s with Bill Russel, or the 20-year dynasty of the New England Patriots, there is no doubt that Boston is a city of champions. Sports are deeply intertwined into the fabric of not only our state but our country, enforcing principles of hard work, collaboration and ambition. Sport and physical fitness are also vital for the preservation of health and prevention of chronic disease. Benefits of physical activity include:
- Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular disease
- Reduction of the risk of type 2 diabetes
- Reduction of serious outcomes from infectious diseases
- Lowering of the risk of development of common cancers
- Strengthening of bones and muscles
- Improvement of posture
- Improvement of sleep patterns
- Management of excess weight
- Improvement of mental health
- Improvement of cognitive function
