National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day: Bringing Focus to Equity and Prevention
Dedicated to shining a light on how HIV/AIDS affects women and girls, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – observed each March 10 – promotes prevention, encourages testing, and empowers communities to support those affected.
The day serves as a reminder of the ongoing inequities women and girls face, calling for education, advocacy, and access to equitable healthcare while bringing focused attention to an issue that too often remains in the shadow of public mindfulness.
Women continue to face higher rates of new HIV diagnoses, with a disproportionate impact on Black and Latina women. Social factors, including limited access to healthcare, stigma, and gender-based inequities increase vulnerability to HIV, deepening the disparities experienced by women and girls – especially those in marginalized communities.
Whittier Street Health Center has long been committed to breaking down these barriers through:
- Confidential HIV/STI testing
- Comprehensive services for HIV prevention and treatment
- Community outreach programs to increase awareness and reduce stigma
Our testing and counseling services are available during walk-in hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. at 1290 Tremont Street, 3rd Floor Family Medicine Green.
We are dedicated to ensuring that every woman and girls has access to compassionate care, accurate information, and the resources needed to protect her health.
