Whittier Street Health Center Community Garden Closing
All good things must come to an end – or at least for a while!
Whittier Street Health Center will celebrate the end of the gardening season on October 23rd, wrapping up another year of abundance and bringing community members together to reflect on the season’s harvest and how it fed both body and soul.
The October 23rd event will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Community Garden, located outside of the Frederica M. Williams Building at 1290 Tremont Street, Roxbury.
The past growing season produced a bounty of fresh produce, with Whittier patients taking healthy advantage of a weekly free bag of freshly harvested crops. In addition to reaping the benefits of the seasonal harvest, community members maintained the raised garden beds where vegetables, herbs, and culturally relevant crops were planted, providing a sense of shared ownership.
Now coming to the end of its 11th season of nourishment and nurture, the Whittier Community Garden has its roots in a mission to address food insecurity and the limited access to fresh and affordable food for so many in our community.
Yes, the 2026 growing season is ending, but when spring returns in 2027, the Whittier Community Garden will once again open to new growth, renewed hope, and deeper community connection.
